As of April 1st, 2021, the Cigna + Oscar small group health insurance plans will be available in more regions across California. This is an exciting new partnership between Cigna, one of the largest health insurance carriers focused primarily with large businesses, and Oscar, a much younger and smaller health insurance carrier focused on small business and individual health insurance plans. Oscar will be administering these health insurance plans but offering plans with Cigna’s LocalPlus and Open Access Plus networks.
The Cigna + Oscar California market will include:
- Rating Areas 2-8 (Bay Area, Greater Sacramento, and North Bay)
- Alameda, Contra Costa, El Dorado, Marin, Napa, Placer, Sacramento, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, Sonoma, and Yolo counties
- Rating Areas 12, 14-19 (Central Coast, Inland Empire, LA/OC, San Diego)
- Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego counties, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties
The LocalPlus EPO is a local EPO plan with affordability in mind while the Open Access Plus EPO plan has a network of roughly 970,000 providers and 17,000 facilities, Neither plan will cover out-of-network providers unless there is a true medical emergency such as a hospitalization although you can find plenty of high-quality doctors across the US.
In the Los Angeles area, both the LocalPlus & Open Access Plus plans have Cedars-Sinai, Providence, Keck of USC, Hollywood Presbyterian, Glendale Memorial, Torrance Memorial and more hospitals in-network. The Open Access Plus plans also include UCLA and many more of the smaller regional hospital systems in-network.
In Orange County, both networks include hospitals such as Providence, Children’s, Anaheim Regional, Kindred, and South Coast Global. The Open Access Plus EPO also includes Hoag Memorial, Foothill, Fountain Valley Regional, Saddleback, Chapman and more.
In San Diego, both networks include Scripps Green, Villa Pomerado & Pomerado, Grossmont, Palomar & Sharp Chula Visa. The Open Access Plus EPO also includes Scripps Memorial, Jacobs, Sharp Memorial & Sharp Coronado, Sharp mary Birch, Rady Children’s, UCSD, Scripps Mercy & Scripps Memorial and more.
